Confined to Lebanon, SW Syria and S Turkey, this species is rare in cultivation and horticultural really distinct ! In Belgium it is always the first Peony to flower, often at the beginning of March. The rising stems with unfolded, hairy leaves and dotted at the top with flower buds, are a wonderful sight ! Botanical eassily recognisable by its glabrous carpels and long coiled stigma at the top. Despite its southern distribution, it is hardy and easy.
