Unlike the Spanisch variant, Paeonia coriacea ssp morocco grows in shade  to the north exposed slopes in forests of Atlas- mountains.

We believe it is very closely related to P algeriensis.   It needs  warm partly shady spot in rock garden. Tollerates frost in winter but hates too much moist in summers, so cover to protect against rain when foliage has withered .
