Or Orchis morio, as most of us know it. The reason of its disappearance in nature is fertilizing in agriculture. It is first victim when grass grows higher and stronger. It has winterleaves which have to take profit of low light conditions of our winters, so when grass grows over it it disappears. Also grass cutting before dispersal of seeds is devastating. It benefits of August or September mowing or grazing .
Easy growing on very poor low grass in wild garden. Also suitable for pot cultivation.
One of our earliest flowering natives, looks like handsome small hyacints.
