Native in Eastern Europe, Hungary Romania..., on sunny lime stone hills, most along the Black Sea. Well known for its blood-red flowers. 

As all our peonies distracted from motherplants originally from wild seed collection. Very suitable for planting allong north facing walls in order to keep them dormant as long as possible to respond to continental growing conditions.
